How to Care for a Silk Scarf
Follow the care instructions for your particular scarf. Silk scarves differ in fabric, dye, print and border; one washing method should not be assumed suitable for every piece.
Before washing
Read the product's care section and any label supplied with the scarf. Several of our satin squares recommend dry cleaning. The general steps below apply only where the individual product instructions allow hand washing. For a plant-dyed or specialty-finished scarf, use its specific care guidance.
When hand washing is allowed
Use cold water and a mild detergent intended for silk. Handle the scarf gently, avoid soaking unless its instructions explicitly permit it, and do not bleach or wring it. Keep a lace edge from catching on jewelry or rough surfaces.
Dry without twisting
Gently remove excess water with a clean towel where the product instructions allow. Dry in the shade, using the flat-drying or hanging method specified for the scarf. Avoid strong direct sunlight and do not twist the fabric to speed drying.
Iron and store with care
Use a low silk setting on the reverse if the product permits ironing. Read any instructions about dampness before starting; the Magnolia wrap's guidance, for example, specifies the lowest silk setting while slightly damp. Do not assume the same method applies to all finishes.
Store the scarf clean and dry, away from direct sunlight, with no sharp objects pressing against the fabric. Loosen knots before putting it away.
Questions about care
Can I put every silk scarf in a washing machine? Our product care instructions do not give a general machine-washing permission. Follow the guidance for your scarf.
Can I wash a plant-dyed scarf like a satin square? Check its own instructions. Dye and finishing differences can require different care.
What should I do if the label and website differ? Pause before treatment and contact hello@moonletzen.com with the product name and a photo of the label.
