How to Choose a Silk Scarf Size

Choose a small square for a compact neck knot, a large square for more folding options and shoulder drape, or a wide rectangular wrap for length and coverage. The measurements matter more than the category name: a long scarf can also be narrow.

Start with the way you want to wear it

For a shirt collar, a small square keeps the knot close to the neck. For an open shoulder drape, look for a large square or a wide rectangle. For loose loops and ends that fall down the front, a long rectangular scarf offers a different line.

Format Examples in our collection Styling to consider
Small square Paisley, approximately 65 × 65 cm Neck knots, hair accents, bag styling
Lace square Five lace neckerchiefs, approximately 65 × 65 cm including the lace border Loose neck styling that leaves the border visible
Large square Paisley Equestrian, approximately 108 × 108 cm; Midnight Blue Bird, 110 × 110 cm Triangle folds, headscarves, shoulder draping
Wide long wrap Magnolia, approximately 180 × 65 cm Shoulder styling and longer neck loops
Narrow long scarf Folk Floral, approximately 175 × 20 cm A loose neck accent rather than full shoulder coverage

Check width as well as length

Two scarves can have similar lengths and feel very different when worn. The narrow Folk Floral scarf and the wider Magnolia wrap illustrate why length alone does not tell you how much shoulder coverage to expect. Compare both dimensions and look at a worn photograph.

If you are choosing a scarf for hair styling, check the finished band length against your intended knot. Fit depends on the fold, hairstyle and head circumference. For a lace square, remember that the stated measurement includes the border.

Questions about size

Is a 65 cm square suitable as a full shoulder wrap? It is better suited to compact neck or hair styling. Choose a larger square or wider wrap when shoulder coverage is the priority.

Are all long scarves wide enough to be shawls? No. A 175 × 20 cm scarf is a narrow accent; a 180 × 65 cm wrap provides substantially more width.

Do the lace scarf measurements include the border? Yes. Our five lace neckerchiefs are approximately 65 × 65 cm including the lace edge.
